Charlton Outdoor Technologies
Here is a quick rendering portfolio of some of the modeling and reverse engineering work done for Charlton Outdoor Technologies. I performed 3D modeling and drafting of discontinued line of saltwater fly fishing reels as the lead product and design engineer. In order to maintain the quality that is expected by customers of this boutique brand, we had to find a manufacturer capable of holding tolerance and manufacturing specifications outlined by the original designer and engineer of the reels. He so happened to be an ex-aerospace machinist and designer who sought out to make the best, most well engineered piece of fly fishing kit in the world.
Responsibilities for scope of projected included:
Reverse engineer and complete CAD models of 4 fly reel spools.
Create and/or update drafting documents for commercial production.
Create Bill of Materials, handle quoting and billing paperwork.
Consult with AS9100 certified machine shops capable of quality our product demands.
Adhere to ASME Y14.5-2009 GD&T Standards
A significant amount of work went into preserving the identity of the brand. The fit, finish, and function of every single component being engineered and remanufactured had to be perfect. Sourcing of the best 6061-T6 aluminum and stainless steel components. Class III anodization of most exterior surfacing was specified in accordance MIL-A-8625 standards, and taken into account during the GD&T and drafting phases of the project. Stringent standards for concentricity, flatness, and runout necessitated every detail of the reconstruction remained true to original reels.
